Lighting simulator.

Set room dimensions and place ceiling fixtures to compare estimated light levels across the room.

Mark a measured room zone

A name label does not define a room area. Draw a measured room zone on the plan, then reopen this study.

Brightness, method and limits

Brightness on the workplane is measured as illuminance in lux. More lux means more light reaches that surface; compare the average and darker areas for each layout. Output is entered in lumens (lm), the total light leaving a fixture.

Estimated horizontal illuminance from direct downward light only. Point fixtures use a symmetric generalized Lambertian distribution; beam angle means full width at half maximum. LED strips distribute their total lumens along their entered length. Lamp and wall-sconce results use the same downward approximation. Enter mounting height above the workplane. No IES photometry, reflected light, daylight, wall shadows, or furniture obstructions. Compare layouts here, then verify a real design with fixture data and a lighting professional.

This estimate does not establish lighting outlet or switch compliance. For one model-code example, see ICC 2021 E3903; check the locally adopted code and project conditions.
